Thoughts about the Centennial Celebration of Our Church

The beauty of our church is captured in this photograph, recently taken for the parish directory. A special thanks to the photographer, Jill Fitz. The church was built over a several month period beginning in 1911, and dedicated on December 21, 1912. At the time, it was considered the finest church building between Omaha and Denver. Many parishioners and visitors of the church believe it still retains the honor of that description.

Portions of the exterior of the church are being restored this summer by Stutzman Sealant, a company from Lincoln, Nebraska. They are tuck pointing the exterior of the church, repairing mortar and brick damaged which has occurred over the years (especially in the north and south towers), largely due to water damage. However, the lightening strikes to the north bell tower on May 12 and August 3 accelerated some of this damage. The four roofs in the towers, the roof over the entry way into the church, and the tile roof of the church will also be repaired this summer.

It is our hope that our beautiful church will be materially sound when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the church in December, 2012.

The spiritual preparation for our centennial celebration is equally important, and will be one of the planning tasks assigned to the Centennial Celebration Committee whose responsibility it will be to plan and oversee the centennial celebration of the dedication of the church.
